I’ve recently discovered the wonderful world of yurts and yurt holidays.

I am fascinated by the idea of living in a yurt and all of the benefits of this type of lifestyle, such as living closer to nature, living in a round building, being self sustainable and living off the grid.

There are yurt holidays, springing up all over the world. Now you can go for a holiday getaway and stay in a yurt and experience what living in a yurt is like.

I would love to experience what it is like to stay in a yurt and experience this type of lifestyle.

I’m going to research and find out all I can about yurt holidays, like where you can go and stay in a yurt on a yurt holiday, the types of yurts and yurt holidays that are available, how you live in a yurt, yurts for sale and all sorts of other things yurt related.

I hope we have a fabulous journey together discovering the joys of yurt holidays.

Travel in scenic Kachemak Bay State Park, near Homer, Alaska, and spend the nights in cozy yurts supplied by Nomad Shelter Yurts, built in Homer: www.nomadshelter.com. Yurts are located strategically along the length of the park in Tutka Bay, Sadie Cove, Neptune Bay, China Poot Bay, Halibut Cove, and Humpy Creek. Bunks, wood stoves, bear safe food storage, and completely cozy accommodations can be a break from camping, or a degenerate way of avoiding tenting altogether. There is nothing quite like getting off the water after a long day of paddling and settling into a wood stove heated cozy yurt with a glass of wine and a hearty dinner. This has got to be one of the Kenai Peinisula’s must-do adventures, but don’t leave your sea kayaking skills behind. Challenging sea conditions with wind, waves and strong currents abound on the trail. Base camping in one of the yurts or two in a local area such as Tutka Bay, avoids the risks of open water. A Yurt is Sustainable Green Building in New Mexico?

I discovered Yurts in Alaska in Valdez and on Raspberry Island. What a remarkable structure and if outfitted properly an outstanding and strong shelter. We build one on our property as a temporary shelter while we surveyed our land and decided what we wanted to build as our main structure or home. The Yurt has been great in the summer and winter. A stove and good insulation make life easy. Not rough-in -it here and we’ve saved $$$ too. Low voltage lighting, recycled and natural materials. Three days on the platform and two on Yurt set up. Weeks finishingJ but that was the fun part. We carved the posts, used old wood for benches. Paintings form interior walls, Cotton Wood Posts support our loft bed and more. Go alternative, green and sustainable. Check out our post on ICF’s is you want something like a real house… But ask yourself. WHY WOOD YOU? And do the math. Thanks.

There are many Yurt Companies. I trust Pacific Yurts. We tried others but will always come back to Pacific Yurts. Do your HOMEWORK ask for Customer Referals, Check Local BBB’s and enjoy living in a Yurt.

The Colorado Yurt Company and “6 Billion Others”

Yurt Winter Camping: MacGregor Provincial Park

http://www.explorethebruce.com/macgregor-point-provincial-park.php is a natural wonderland summer, fall, winter I checked it out. You realy have to try this with your family or friends as they are heated winter Yurts and really make some wonderful memories.

These semi-permanent canvas-covered structures are 16 feet in diameter, mounted on a wooden deck about two feet off the ground. Yurts can accommodate up to six people. They have two sets of bunk beds, a table and chairs, plywood floors, electric heat and lighting, and a propane barbecue.

It is an outdoor treasure that can be enjoyed year-round. Located on a seven-kilometre stretch of coast on Lake Huron it hosts a multitude of features that will stun the senses.

Amenities:

* Yurts are equipped with two sets of bunk beds, each having a vinyl cover futon mattress, and a double vinyl cover futon mattress.
* Table and chairs.
* Electric heat and lighting (fluorescent).
* Interior Electrical outlet (15 amp 110 v).
* Exterior electrical pedestal (15 amp 110 volt)
* Fire extinguisher and smoke detector.
* Shelving unit.
* Broom and dustpan.
* Propane barbecue (propane is supplied)
* Dining shelter.
* Picnic table.
* Fire pit (firewood is available for purchase at the park)
* Snow shovel
* Heated comfort station with flush toilets, showers and laundry facilities is open for use.
* Drinking water is available from the comfort station.

What to Bring:

Sleeping bags, cooking stove, pots and pans, dishes and utensils, pot for heating water, drinking water container, dishpan and container for waste water from dish washing and food preparation, flashlight, lantern, matches, food, drinking water, bicycles, exterior 15 amp extension cord. Appropriate cold weather gear for winter. Additional items for winter camping include snowshoes, cross country skis, sled for carrying water from comfort station in winter and additional food supplies in case of inclement weather and road closures.

Note:

Domestic animals (pets) are NOT permitted in the facility or on the site and smoking is prohibited in all facilities. Cooking inside yurts is not permitted. Dishwashing and food preparation is to be done at the yurt campsite. Dishwashing is not permitted at the comfort station. Trailers and additional shelter equipment is not permitted on the yurt campsites.
